How can you become a web developer? Do you have what it takes to be a web designer?

Web design can be fun and rewarding. It is a trade that blends technical skills with creativity. Web design can be a great way if you're comfortable with computers and love creating documents.

It can be overwhelming to try a new skill. Before you learn how to be a web design professional, ask yourself the question, "Should my career as a web designer?"

I started learning web design when I was ten. This was in 1994. I currently do web design both for my own small business and for clients. There have been many pleasures and also many frustrations. These are the things that you need to remember if you want to become a web developer.

You can learn the basics in a matter of months if your time is limited. Prepare to spend money on books, manuals, and software.

It doesn't matter how much you learn web design in Germany, or how you approach it. You'll encounter many frustrations, even with a simple language such as HTML and Dreamweaver. Sometimes, I spend way more time correcting and problem-solving when creating HTML documents. Are you willing to spend time testing and making small changes? It doesn't matter how you approach web designing, boredom is something that can't be avoided. You might not like web design if you get discouraged easily.

If web design is not something you are interested in, there will be clients that you need to work with. Clients can have specific expectations. Clients may have some experience in web design. Others might not be familiar with the technical details. Before you begin any project for clients it is a good idea to have a detailed conversation about what they want and need. It can save you time and help you save money. What would it be like to spend weeks building a website and then discover that your client has completely different preferences in terms of fonts, colors graphics, organization, and content? You will need to accept criticism and make compromises if you are going to create web pages for people. Are you up to the challenge?

The last thing you need to do is ask yourself if your time and energy are sufficient to market yourself. To be hired by web design firms, you must not only have the skills to do the job but also be able to present your portfolio and resume. Finding a job can take over a year. Expect to attend many interviews and receive rejections.

To become a freelancer like me, you need to put a lot of effort into self-promotion. Create a website. Spend some money on advertising. Spend a lot of your time promoting services through social media - Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Linked-In. Check out classified ads, especially online. Print business cards to be distributed wherever possible. You can use your networks and word-of-mouth to your advantage. You can tell everyone you know that web designers exist, and perhaps someone in your network knows someone who might be your first client. Sometimes I spend more time advertising myself than actually doing the work.

If you are willing to put in a lot, work hard, be critical, take criticisms, and make a lot, web design might be for you.

The first step is to begin the learning process. Sign up for a course in web design and graphic design at your local college if you like the idea of having teachers and receiving classroom instruction. You can learn more by reading books, looking at the source codes for the pages you visit, and following some online tutorials. You must be willing to spend a lot of time learning, even if your goal is to learn web design in school.

It is essential to understand HTML, particularly HTML5. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), as well as CSS3. Flash and JavaScript are great tools. You should also learn Photoshop. Start by downloading free programs such as Paint.Net and GIMP if you don't want to spend the money on Photoshop. You can still learn basic graphic design skills and be prepared to buy Photoshop.

Today, the web is accessible in more ways than ever before. You want your web pages to work on multiple browsers when web designing. Accessing the web is possible on basic mobile phones today, as well as smartphones such as iPhones or BlackBerrys. Web browsers can be found on many video gaming devices such as the Sony PSP, Nintendo DSi, and Nintendo DSi. It doesn't matter if the screen size of web surfers is small or large. You could have different versions and browsers. There may be different fonts or plug-ins for users. Adobe Flash is one example of a browser plugin. Learn web design by surfing the web as many times as you can.
